It is with regret that the Department announces the death of Franklyn B. Van Houten*41, professor emeritus and Professor of Geology at Princeton from 1946-1985, on August 27 at home in Bethlehem, NH at the age of 97. Van Houten’s research ranged from the Rocky mountains to the Yukon, from South America to the near East, but also included groundbreaking research on Triassic lake-level cycles close to home in the Lockatong formation of the Newark basin. The flag on Nassau Hall will fly at half-mast until September 7th to mark the passing of this dedicated teacher and valued colleague. Memorial arrangements will be forthcoming.
