The team of associate research scholar Hom Nath Gharti, postdoctoral research associate Etienne Bachmann, and graduate students Congyue Cui, Lucas Sawade, and Fan Wu from the Theoretical & Computational Seismology Research Group took part in the first Princeton Graphical Processing Units (GPU) Hackathon organized and hosted by the Princeton Institute for Computational Science and Engineering (PICSciE), and co-sponsored by NVIDIA and the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF). The team was among the selected eight teams from the Princeton University and neighbouring institutions. They worked on porting the geoscientific software package Specfem-X to GPU which will enable them to solve large-scale problems in planetary statics and dynamics with remarkable efficiency.
