Research Summary: The decay of radioactive isotopes in minerals tells us about the timing and tempo of geological events throughout Earth history. The timescales determined by radiometric dating, however, are only as robust as our understanding of the geochemical processes that occur within dated minerals. I use an array of analytical and empirical techniques to understand how the crystal structure and chemistry of minerals affect geochemical kinetics and derivations of geologic time. I am interested in better understanding widely-used mineral chronometers and in developing new ones.
