Title: Graduate Student
Research Summary: Emma Kast is broadly interested in biogeochemical cycles and climate on million-year time scales. In particular, she is currently studying the long term dynamics of the marine nitrogen cycle across the Cenozoic using the nitrogen isotopic composition of organic matter preserved in foraminifera. She is also developing a new tool to study nitrogen cycling and ecology in the past by measuring the N isotopic composition of organic matter contained within tooth enamel from sharks and terrestrial animals.
Keywords: paleoclimate, paleoceanography, biogeochemistry, nitrogen cycle
